More Than Six Decades of Samelan
In 1963, a group of young Sikh men came together for a one-week camp. That gathering marked the beginning of what would become one of the most cherished annual events among Sikh youth in Malaysia — the Annual Gurmat Parchaar Samelan.
The first Samelan, held in Port Dickson, began as an all-boys camp. The following year, young women joined the gathering, and the Samelan continued to grow into an inclusive annual experience centred on Gurmat, learning, friendship and Sewa.
What Samelan Stands For
At its heart, Samelan creates a space where Sikh youth can strengthen their connection with Sikhi, serve one another and build relationships that continue beyond the camp itself.
Gurmat
Learning and living the teachings of Sikhi through reflection, prayer and meaningful discussion.

Bringing people together in unity, friendship and shared purpose.

Learning the value of selfless service through helping, contributing and caring for one another.

A Tradition That Continues to Grow
Today, the Annual Gurmat Parchaar Samelan continues to be one of the key events organised by Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia during the year-end school holidays.
Youth participants come together for a week that combines Gurmat learning, prayers, leadership development, games, activities and Sewa . Sewadars from across the country contribute their time and energy to guide and support the next generation.
